Founder’s Week: CCS Movie Night Day 1

6:00 PM on August 20, 2024 was a memorable time for me. During the Founder’s Week, CCS arranged a movie night for the CCS students. On the first movie night at ATA Hall, I watched my first horror movie as a CCS student with Karen, my closest friend from CBA. Together with other CCS students, we watched Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum.

I learned how to face my fears as someone who easily gets scared of horror movies and the dark. Initially, I thought it would be awkward to watch with people I don’t know, as we could be screaming and making a lot of noise. It turns out, everyone was doing the same, they were screaming and making noise as much as us. It was a fun experience. It surprised me how there were no judgments at all during the entire duration of the movie. It made me view the experience as positive. There was this girl that left quite an impression on me during this activity; she had a contagious laugh and scream that radiated with the entire audience. For me, the ending of the movie was a difficult one to decipher; it didn’t make sense to me how everyone needed to end up in the same fate.

This experience taught me how to be comfortable in a world of strangers. It made me confident to show my weird and scaredy cat side to others as long as I am in the right place and position to do so. I will join more movie nights like this in the future and bring Karen again along with me. I see it as a great way to relieve stress. If I could do this event all over again, I would bring more of my friends from CBA with me so that the screams would be louder and there would be more funnier moments of epic faces to enjoy for the duration of the movie.

Because of this activity, I am now immune to unexplainable horror movie endings. I won’t be tricked the second time around to succumb to its horror.
