Hibalag: Christian Night
The Hibalag: Christian Night was held on August 21st from 6 to 10 PM. This event is held annually on the first night of every Hibalag season as a celebration of Silliman’s foundation, the values that have sustained the university, and God’s boundless blessings upon its students. The Christian Night is an open-house event, meaning everyone on the Hibalag grounds during the event was a participant, including me, many other students, and guests visiting the Hibalag booths.
By participating in the Christian Night, I was able to foster my spiritual growth and develop skills in active listening and meaningful reflection. The worship leaders created an atmosphere that encouraged us, the participants, to be fully present in the moment, enabling us to deeply absorb the songs and sermons. It was my first time experiencing such an event, and I initially expected a simple worship session. However, this changed when I witnessed how immersive and interactive the event was. I was amazed to see everyone on the Hibalag grounds, regardless of how busy they were, take time to sing along and praise God from their booths or wherever they were. It was a truly remarkable experience. The worship leaders were the most memorable aspect of the event and had the greatest impact on how I viewed the experience. Their passion and dedication to their sermons and songs were so moving that self-reflection afterward proved to be challenging. The messages they delivered resonated with me in ways I find difficult to describe.
This experience deepened my appreciation for the guidance, love, and faith that God has given me and for the life He has provided. It also strengthened my love for the Silliman University community. As a Christ-centered institution, Silliman truly expresses its love for God in numerous ways. The event taught me that God genuinely cares for all His creations and that I am fortunate to be one of His children. My involvement with this group will continue as I participate in more events organized by the Silliman Church and its subgroups. The benefits of this event are immeasurable, as it instills in everyone—students and guests alike—the profound love that God has for all. If I could relive this experience, I wouldn’t change a thing. The event was perfectly organized just as it was.
Because of this activity, I have become more appreciative of God, His works, His ways, and the life He has so generously given me. It is through Him that I was able to experience this event in the first place.
