Dodgeball for a Cause

The Dodgeball for a Cause event was organized by the DOST SU organization and was held at Ravello PE Field on November 13, 2024, at 3:00 PM in the afternoon. This event is meant to be a fundraiser for the Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary, an animal rescue shelter here in Dumaguete City. Participants are made to register in groups as they compete for prizes through dodgeball matches. Spectators mostly included students who were not able to register but still wanted to support the cause; this included me and some of my classmates.
While I initially expected there to only be a few registered groups joining in on the activity, there were a lot more than I expected. Most of the groups were students from the College of Computer Studies, which I was honestly very surprised to hear and see. The activity was exhilarating and fun, not only because dodgeball in itself is a very fun game but because the students were also enjoying the matches. It was a fun experience, even for the spectators.
Due to this activity, I learned that dodgeball can really injure someone, especially if the balls used are hard balls such as soccer balls or volleyball balls. It was nothing to worry about, though, since during the games, the participants did make sure to throw the balls softly and not to hit directly at the players’ faces or heads. This serves as a reminder to myself to never throw such balls around aimlessly, especially if there are too many people around since they can cause casualties. Since the DOST sa SU is doing this event as a fundraiser for the Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary, a shelter that I already know of, I can further involve myself by making direct donations to the shelter’s payment channels. The benefit of this activity is mainly the shelter receiving financial support in their endeavors of rescuing stray animals and helping in the building of their new shelter in Zamboanguita. If I could do the activity all over again, I would also add donation boxes for the spectators as well so that they can also give any amount of money to add to the fundraiser.
Because of this activity, I am fully satisfied with the idea that I can help the Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary with their operations and that many other organizations have also stepped up to donate the shelter as well. This is a huge step towards making Dumaguete City a hospitable environment for humans and our animal friends alike.
