Negros Women for Tomorrow's Foundation: Public Lecture

The Negros Women for Tomorrow’s Foundation (NWTF) lecture was a lecture hosted by the Pan Hellenic Society and the School of Public Affairs and Governance of Silliman University. It was held in the first-floor Guy Hall classroom on November 27, 2024, from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM. The lecture aimed to teach about the NWTF’s program, Dungganon, and their impact on women all across the country. The participants who all attended the lecture were all Silliman students from varying colleges and years.

I learned a lot of things during the lecture, even though I initially expected I would be wholly unfamiliar with the NWTF. Turns out, I have already heard of their project Dungganon before, as this project has been extremely beneficial to families, especially their matriarchs, in my hometown of Bindoy. The experience was extremely insightful into how the NWTF operates and how they have exactly helped women all across the country, especially here in Negros Island. The speakers, Mr. Gilbert Stephan S. Maramba, Director for Operations of NWTF, and Mr. Maide C. Pido, Product Development Supervisor, were all very eloquent in the way that they presented their organization's goals and their projects. The two of them also answered in a very detailed manner during the open forum part of the lecture, which deepened my understanding of just how much they cared about their project’s members.

The lecture has expanded my view on the NWTF’s project, especially Dungganon, their main spearhead project that has been helping Filipino family matriarchs since its conception. I learned much about their programs, for example, their yearly free medical checkups, which include eye checkups and general laboratory testing for the direct family of the NWTF member. The NWTF has truly been an eye-opener of just how much microfinance projects can help Filipino families, especially those in the lowest financial sectors in the country. The lecture was truly a benefit to all the participants that day. Though I, myself, cannot be a part of the NWTF membership, should I know someone who might need the help of the NWTF, I will gladly refer them to become a member of the organization.

Because of this activity, I am more aware of the microfinance organization, Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation, and their projects, their members, goals, and future plans for the women of this country.
