All-University Academic Convocation

The All-University Academic Convocation is a yearly assembly of all important personnel of Silliman University in order to report recent achievements and breakthroughs of the university. This year’s academic convocation was held on the 14th of October from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Luce Auditorium. The participants of the said event were guests invited by the university, along with professors, staff, and the student body of Silliman University. Because only a limited number can be seated inside the Luce Auditorium, only selected students are allowed inside, and my section was one such.

I only expected the convocation to last for maybe two hours total, but I was surprised that it ran longer. But the cause of it running longer was only because the university had more topics to discuss with the crowd than ever before, especially after CHED granted the university autonomous status effective this year. Leading the reports were, of course, Dr. McCann, who single-handedly reported on all the good the university had gone through throughout the academic years before. She was very thorough with her words, and it left me feeling very proud of the university and all the people in it that made it possible to achieve such feats.

Due to the convocation, I have never felt more satisfied with the amount of work the people of Silliman University have put in to get the university to the status that it has accumulated now. I have learned many things through the data that the university president has given through her speech. This year’s convocation has been a pleasure to hear, and so, hopefully next year, I am also able to hear Silliman University’s continuing line of achievements. Hearing such reports, I’m sure any student would also find it an inspiration to continue to do good by the school to elevate it to new heights.

Because of this activity, I am more than grateful to the staff, personnel, and administrators of Silliman University for their continued efforts that have truly paid off.
