Walk for Creation: Coastal Cleanup

On October 5, 2024, a Walk for Creation: Coastal Cleanup was initiated by the Dumaguete Cathedral to be held at the Chiz Stick Country in Bantayan, Crossing Piapi Elementary School in Piapi, and Pier Exit in Looc, 5:00-7:00 AM. I voluntarily participated, though I had to go alone.

I learned how to integrate both organizational and emotional skills in the execution of the cleanup drive. At first, I expected it to be boring or tiresome, but when I got to the venue and made new friends, it made me feel like doing cleanup was the easiest thing to do. While we were cleaning, I was surprised by how productive I was, given that I loved coastal areas, so I pushed myself to see a better image of it after the activity. The people I worked with were very kind, and they came from distant places too. Their good faces matched their good hearts and deeds very well. I found the cleanest coasts as the result the most satisfying in this activity. It made me more expressive about my love for nature.

This activity reminded me of having accountability. Us humans have the power to destroy our environment by littering and throwing waste around, but we have more power to reverse these acts and take action to provide ourselves with a breathable environment that is safe and clean to live in. After meeting with this group, I found inspiration to do more good for the environment. Hence, I will be urging other people too to join these initiatives and stay in touch with posts like this to help the community and promote environmental sustainability.

Because of this activity, I am going to be more active in speaking up and standing up for the environment. I commit myself to the welfare of our present and future generations by instilling discipline and value in the environment to help foster change and awareness not just among the people in Dumaguete but in all parts of the world.
