Buglasan Esports Showdown: Tekken Tournament
The Buglasan Esports Showdown: Tekken Tournament was held at the Macias Sports Complex back on October 12th of this year. It was a tournament held by the Negros Oriental Sports Development (NOSDEP) office as part of the Buglasan Festival’s events. Participants of this event were all interested Tekken players who registered to compete in the tournament. Since the event was held in the Macias Complex lobby, I was able to spectate on their event and their gameplay.
I first expected that the tournament would only have a few competitors fighting for the champion title, but to my surprise, there were actually more than 20 or so participants in the tournament. My initial expectation for the event was grounded in my idea that not many people played Tekken in Dumaguete City. That was proven wrong, however. All the participants held such a passion for the game, and they all left a deep impression on me, since while I am not an avid Tekken player, I am a gamer through and through and have played Tekken in the past against my childhood friends. It was a very exhilarating event, especially as the tournament grew closer to crowning a champion.
Because of this tournament, I was able to hold utmost faith in the eSports development of Dumaguete City. After all, if the city could manage to hold even a Tekken tournament for its gamer populace, then the future of eSports in Dumaguete is not as bleak as I always thought it would be. During the next Buglasan Festival, should I have the time, I will also tune in to the next Tekken tournament and maybe to other eSports events during the festival as well. I do hope that even more people will support the eSports development of the city since it truly is beneficial for the younger people of Dumaguete who enjoy gaming but also want to earn from their hobby through joining competitions such as this.
Because of this activity, I am looking forward to more eSports tournaments in Dumaguete City and the development of a more positive gaming community in the future.
