Galilean Fellowship

The Galilean Fellowship is a yearly event that is held during University Christian Life Emphasis Month, or UCLEM, in Silliman University. This year it was held on November 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Amphitheatre grounds. The participants of the Galilean Fellowship were all CHS students, so I couldn’t attend personally or join in any groups, so I, along with a friend, instead spectated from the sides and listened in on their discussions.

From listening to their discussions, I was able to realize that I truly must practice my mental toughness, a skill necessary to overcome the giants in one’s life. Since the fellowship is part of the UCLEM events, I initially expected them to discuss the same “Overcoming Life’s Giants” in the same manner, but I was wrong. The fellowship became a way instead to discuss and share with the students how to act and face problems with mental fortitude and self-confidence and not just through blind words and actionless faith in God. The coordinators surprised me with their talk that one’s faith in God should be acted upon and not just said alone without any actions to fortify them. I liked how the coordinators handled the event well despite the many CHS sections that were participating and how they could accommodate every single student’s questions and answer them and advise them to the best of their abilities. While I may have only been a spectator to the event, I was still able to participate indirectly through listening and taking to heart and mind the discussions that were made.

Due to this activity, I learned that the giants in one’s life should not be underestimated but that we should also not fear them because God never puts us in tough situations without believing that we can overcome them. Because of this experience, I have learned to put faith in God’s plans for me, especially for my uncertain future. Since I will be taking my final CHS subject next semester or next year, I am hoping that I can join in on their next Galilean Fellowship as well. I would also like to experience this kind of community gathering and learning experience personally. Though I feel as though those without CHS subjects will be left out of the experience. It would truly be better if, in the near future, the next fellowship will also give some chance for those that are not taking any CHS subjects.

Because of this activity, I am now more inclined to believe in God’s will and plans for me and to also believe in the possibility that I will always triumph over any giant that comes into my life.
